On Friday, November 30, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will partner with iconic artist, Debbie Allen, and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, to commemorate World AIDS Day. The name of this year's event is dubbed ‘Keeping the Promise - 1,000,000 Lives in Care: Celebrating Icons of Dance’ and will be held in New York for the first time at the historic Apollo Theater.
The evening will be a celebration of dance, featuring some of the nation’s highly acclaimed dance companies, including Philadanco, Ailey II, Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy among others.
Maurice Hines (Actor/Singer/Choreographer), Misty Copeland (Prima Ballerina), Phylicia Rashad (Award-Winning Actor/Director) and more will also make special appearances. The evening will also feature tributes to icons in dance that have died due to complications from AIDS, and Debbie Allen will receive the second annual Legacy of Achievement Award for her leadership and advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
This annual World AIDS Day event will not only be a fantastic evening of cultural experiences but will serve as an opportunity to recognize the advancements achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Free HIV testing will also be provided during the event.
