Thandie Newton was blushing in pink last night at the Emmys. On winning best supporting actress in a drama series for her role in Westworld she said "I don't believe in God but I'm going to thank her tonight."
I will admit I clutched my pearls at such a bold statement. But this was a response to a running joke started by Emmy Host Michael Che "My mother is not watching," Che said. "She says she doesn't like watching white award shows because you guys don't thank Jesus enough."
"That's true," he continued. "The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads."
According to a recent Pew Survey 80% of Americans believe in God, 56% believe in God as described in the Bible, 23% believe in some other higher/spiritual power with 19% don't believe in God at all, 9% believe in some higher power and 10% don't believe in any high power.
