There were very few hits and lots of misses at fashions biggest night. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit gala, celebrating “China: Through the Looking Glass,” in New York on May 4. Some gala-goers decided to totally ignore the theme, others managed to pay homage to Chinese culture and design without looking inappropriately costume-y. Props to Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon forever) in Balenciaga, Zhang Ziyi in Carolina Herrera, Emily Blunt in Prada and all hail Queen Rihanna, whose royal yellow mega cape-gown is by an actual Chinese designer, Guo Pei. Blunder awards go to Lady Gaga for wearing a Kimono which is Japanese not Chinese, and to our girl Kerry Washington, um I don’t know what to say. Beyonce and JLo were in competition with how naked can you be without really being naked. One things for sure the carpet was filled with creativity and drama. Judge for yourself!
